FAQ’s

I’m new to bushcraft, does this matter?

Not at all! This course doesn’t require any prior experience, the emphasis is on learning and having fun in a friendly atmosphere. The day is designed as a gentle introduction for those that are new to outdoor survival, whilst offering the opportunity to practise and develop the skills of the more experienced group members.

Do I need to buy any specialist equipment?

As you know, British weather can be unpredictable. You’ll be outdoors for the duration of the session and courses will normally run regardless of the weather. We would therefore recommend that you wear sturdy footwear (walking boots are perfect!) and wear some warm layers and waterproof outer clothes. A rucksack would be handy to carry any jumpers and coats until you need them. All other equipment will be provided for you.

Can I bring my own knife, axe or saw?

There is no requirement for you to do so but if you have equipment that you are comfortable and experienced with you are welcome to bring it along. The course instructors will need to inspect this before the course starts to decide if you will be able to use it.

Where does the course take place?

We will be based on a privately-owned estate in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds. You’ll be met by your instructors at the car park indicated in your joining instructions. We will then walk to our woodland bushcamp which will be our base for the day. The entire course takes place outside.

What are the age limits?

There is no upper age limit but you should be in good physical health. There will be a fair amount of walking involved, often over uneven ground. You should consult your GP before booking if you are in any doubt. We exercise a lower age limit of 8 years. All children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Are the instructors qualified in first aid?

Yes, all instructors hold a current first aid qualification.

Do I need to bring my own food?

No. We will provide a simple, healthy lunch, cold drinks, tea and coffee. You are however welcome to bring you own additional snacks.

What about those with special dietary requirements?

Please let us know of any dietary requirements upon booking your place. We will do our best to meet these needs, however you may be advised that the best option is for you to bring something that you know you are going to be happy to eat.

Can I bring alcohol?

We insist that you neither bring nor consume any alcohol on our courses.

Is there a toilet?

An outdoor facility is available. It is discreet, clean, functional and environmentally friendly.

Can I bring my mobile phone?

Yes! We know that you may wish to take photos of your day and we are more than happy for you to do so. We do however request that you switch your device to silent and refrain from making calls during the activities.

Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately not.

Where can I park my car/leave my valuables?

There is a free, private car park. We advise that you do not bring any unnecessary valuables with you, management will not accept liability for any accidents, damage or loss.

What happens if my course is cancelled?

We make every effort to ensure that all courses run on the dates specified. If we need to cancel a course, you will be offered alternative dates or given a full refund.

What if I need to cancel?

If you need to cancel your booking (for any reason) the following charges will apply:
